SOLO CUP COMPANY AND GOLDEN STATE FOODS AWARDED GRANTSSolo Cup Company, our 2008 Georgia Certified Work Ready Business of the Year and Golden State Foods, 2009 Georgia Certified Work Ready Business of the Year, have both been awarded grants from the Governor’s office to reimburse expenses to businesses for implementation of the program within their industries. Lisa Phillips with Solo Cup and Kim Donohue at Golden State Foods have done an outstanding job with Georgia Work Ready proving that programs like these have value to our businesses and ultimately to the economic growth of our community.

COUNTY COMMISSIONER POST 1, OZ NESBITT, SR. KEYNOTES ROCKDALE MLK CELEBRATIONThe Rockdale/Conyers Chamber of Commerce and Rockdale County NAACP have tapped Rockdale County Commissioner Oz Nesbitt, Sr. for their annual breakfast commemorating Martin Luther King’s Birthday.The event is scheduled Monday, January 18, 2010, 7:45 AM at the Longhorn Steakhouse located at I-20 and West Avenue “We’re expecting a huge crowd for this year’s celebration,” said Fred Boscarino, President of the Rockdale/Conyers Chamber of Commerce. “This is our seventh year hosting the MLK celebration with the Rockdale NAACP. The joint sponsorship has become a community tradition .Appropriately, we have asked our County Commissioner Post 1, Oz Nesbitt, Sr. to speak, and we are very pleased that he has accepted our invitation. We look forward to hearing his message. The public is invited to attend this important observance of Martin Luther King Day free of charge.

BE COUNTED IN THE 2010 CENSUSThe Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the United States Census Bureau in getting the word out to “Be Counted” in the 2010 Census. The 2010 Census will determine how over $400 billion annually of federal government funding will be allocated to each community for critical services. The questionaire consists of 10 questions that can be filled out in 10 minutes. The outcome of the Census impacts our voice in Congress.
