Beyond Curb Appeal

A lush, green lawn and beautiful landscaping can improve the appearance of any home – and it’s the first thing perspective buyers notice about a property – but there’s more to a home than its curb appeal.

A study by the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University showed that landscaping could, in fact, increase the value of a home.

Study participants were shown multiple photos of the same property; one displayed only a lawn and cement sidewalk in front of the home, others depicted various landscaping.

The results were a perceived five to 11 percent rise in value of the photos with well-kept flower beds, trim bushes and trees.

If you are selling, consider the health of your plants, that tree limbs are clear of the roof and any power lines, and foliage is cleared from the lawn and sidewalks. For more tips on presenting your home at its best, call me.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a new home, of course, you want one that appeals to you, but remember that is only one aspect.

You also want to make sure that the house meets your family’s needs and is in good condition.
